What Size Cape Do You Wear?

I would venture to guess that some of you freaked a little when you saw the words – size & wear, more than the word cape.
That’s pretty bold of me to say, I know. But I also know that as women, our brains can get to the negative & insecure thoughts faster than we can fill our online carts or shopping totes at a BOGO sale!
I’m no expert, but I’m thinking our quick as lightening negativity & insecurity may have a lot to do with the fact that we live in a culture that spends a lot of time and money to influence us to be…
- super fast-paced
- super competitive
- ridiculously comparative
- expects perfection in every way…like, YESTERDAY
(No wonder we are consumed with concern about our families, our finances and our food & fitness choices. Oh, and a BIG honorable mention goes to our ever apparent lack of organizational skills when it comes to our time and our living spaces!)
It’s precisely why I created and am SO passionate about THIS!
What does all of this have to do with Cape Size?!
I don’t know about you, but when I hear the word cape, I think – superhero.
When I think of superhero, I think – superpower.
Let’s park our mind on the word, superpower for a minute.
We’ve all wished for a superpower at some point in our lives – c’mon, which superpowers have you wished for?
With a husband, three kids and a dog, I’ve wished for the ability to point to objects and have them float into place like Mary Poppins, or twitch my nose and make things appear (like in my bank account) objects disappear or transport myself to a more blissful location, oh, and I can’t count how many times I’ve wished for the power to be invisible or the ability to time-travel!
What if our “cape” was simply the choice to see the superpowers we already have?
- the power to believe what God says is true of me.
- the power to encourage someone.
- the power to influence those around me.
- the power to be kind even if it’s not appreciated or returned.
- the power to love others even if they don’t see it, believe it or reciprocate it.
So starting today, instead of believing what our culture is selling, stressing and sucking us into and wishing for superpowers to change our disappointments, let’s challenge ourselves to believe what IS and embrace the abilities, gifts, talents and choices we have been given the power over.
What size will your cape be today?
Let’s rock big & bold capes together – comment below with your existing superpower!
Struggling with cape size and cape envy right there with you,
For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love and sound judgment. 2 Timothy 1:7
I treasure the details on your web sites. Thnx!.
