Happiness is…

Happiness is defined as a state of being that is under one’s personal control.
So if it’s under our control, where does one personally grab hold of and even keep this ever elusive (and sometimes fleeting) state of happiness?
Well, you can try some of these known tips to finding happiness:
- knowing who you are at your core – be authentically you, not who others want you to be.
- knowing what you value vs. what it will cost you.
- protecting your priorities – your walk should match your talk.
- having a sense of satisfaction – hmmm…
Oh, easy peasy right?! Not so much.
And where does one find this sense of satisfaction?! (probably last on this list because it’s the hardest to keep)
Well, here’s a few ways that I found to help with achieving that really tough one on the list…satisfaction:
- challenging activities
- setting & meeting goals
- maintaining those close relationships
- finding & pursuing a purpose beyond yourself
We get happiness so mixed up with expectations.
When someone or something doesn’t meet our expectations we decide to allow that to affect our happiness.
Guess what? Circumstances and situations only account for about 10% of our happiness!
So where’s the other 90% come from?
Our MINDSET and the things we can work on and improve…meaning the things that are within our control.
There you have it folks, happiness is a CHOICE, a decision to do better, be better and grow beyond who we are, into who we will ultimately become. I know that I’m a work in progress and certainly not perfect, but I’m happy to know that I have control over how I choose to see my circumstances and allow it to help me become bitter or better!
What do you say – can we hold each other accountable to do and focus on the things that are within our control?
