Faith, Focus & Follow-Through: What It Takes To Own Your Goals

open laptop with hands on papers to write title of blog Own Your Goal

To own your goals, it takes faith, focus, and follow-through. In this post we will look at how important it is to take responsibility for your own achievements. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather be known as a serious goal-getter than just an avid goal-setter 😉

Taking ownership of your goals is your responsibility.

How much hope and trust are you putting into others or ideal circumstances when it comes to your achievements? I’m willing to guess that you probably haven’t given that question much thought until just now because I asked it. Not sure if you’re in need of reflecting on that question? Let me ask it this way, how many times have you. . .

  • waited to start until [fill in the blank reason here]
  • needed someone to [fill in the blank expectation here]
  • quit something because…

Those reasons, expectations, and dare I say, excuses, likely come to mind pretty quickly and easily. I know for me I can think of different seasons, and phases of my life where those [blanks] would be the standard answer why my goal, plan, or project didn’t happen, come through, or get finished.

You should be the most accountable for the success of your goal
over other people or circumstances.

Take a look at your current goal, plan or project and see if you’re falling prey to a reason, expectation, or an excuse. Whether it’s legit or a hybrid between, “it would be nice” and “it’s not my fault,” when it comes to the progress you make – the buck stops with you.

It’s important to realize that you and I are and deal with imperfect people and constantly navigating unpredictable situations.

So doesn’t it make sense to plan with some flexibility and grace for the reality we live in?

Setting goals for purpose more than just personal ambition.

Here’s where you’ll want to check your MoGo and see if it aligns with your true identity, core values, and bigger vision.

Motives are what drive your decisions and ultimately your actions. So it would make sense to be sure you are clear as to what those reasons are behind your goals.

Goals are the aim for the end result you are trying to achieve. They are mile markers on the way to your ultimate vision, not the “arrival” of achievement.

Faith matters when it comes to your goal-getting.

It’s becomes a slippery slope when the success of YOUR goal is dependent on someone else or “ideal” situations. We’ve already established that putting our hope and trust in people or circumstances still leaves us holding the bag when it comes to responsibility.

Know where your confidence comes from because it will either be
the culprit or the catalyst for where you end up.

#prioritizedfocus

Need to be reminded of how much of your plans are dependent on your trust in HIS plans for you first?

  • Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will established your plans. Proverbs 16:3 NIV
  • Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23 NLT
  • For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. James 1:3-4 NLT

If your faith isn’t fueling your decisions, and direction then you’re opening yourself up for some serious setbacks.

Focus on your priorities and the goals will take care of themselves.

Distraction is the #1 killer of focus and productivity. And the #1 reason for that is simply, not knowing your priorities.

If you don’t know your top priorities in your life, don’t expect
business priorities to just miraculously seem clear or consistent.

Life priorities by the way are always a picture of what you believe. What you believe is also known as your faith. Get your faith right and life and business pretty much become a much clearer path.

30-day prioritized focus success planner

Get the priorities right in your life and the yearly, monthly, weekly, daily plans pretty much take care of themselves. Then it’s just putting it on your agenda and into practice!

The 30-Day Prioritized Focus Success Planner is my favorite tool to help keep those priorities a part of everyday. And yes, it’s available for you too!

Follow-through is the personal goal that separates the actual getters from the practiced setters.

Now I don’t know about you but follow-through is a bit of a struggle. Want to know the most common one I let fall through the cracks? Keeping the promises I make to me.

Not keeping promises to yourself is the biggest lack of follow-through
keeping you from achieving your biggest (and even smaller) goals.

And that my friend is where we started this journey, responsibility–yours. I find it interesting the high standard we hold others to when it comes to accountability and follow-through? Yet, if we follow the trail that led to the distraction, disconnect, or decision that has us griping over less than a stellar goal outcome, who’s the one found liable? 🙋‍♀️😬 Likely, it’s us!

Hey, I’m not picking on you, I’m in this boat with you remember? I’ve already mentioned the free A.I.M. workbook and the 30-Day Planner, but of course I have other resources.

But they’re too much to put in an already lengthy blog post! As a matter of fact, they can and DO fill an entire book! And that book is coming your way soon. 🌟🙌
