Remembering The Pause In Your Busy Life

We can be so busy looking for the applause in our life and our business, that we have often forgotten the importance of practicing the pause. Practicing the pause in the midst of our busy can be more helpful than you even realize.

Sounds counter-intuitive I know, but think about it – how long can you…

  • sustain a break-neck pace?
  • maintain survival mode?
  • play chaos coordinator with your calendar?

For those of us VALs (Valued Amazing Ladies) in business we are often found wearing those “titles” as some type of badge of honor! And who is it exactly, that is impressed with these badges? Us, others, family, those we are looking to attract to our business…?

With all that we’ve got going on in our lives, taking a purposeful pause seems almost laughable.

Are you thinking, “taking a pause just does not seem possible and certainly not in the foreseeable future that’s for sure!”?

But what if you don’t make time for a pause – then what?

Well, maybe start by asking yourself how are things working out for you now at the pace you’re keeping?

Here’s the thing, when you make the time to pause, reflect and rest, ah-mazing things have the chance to happen.

Things like:

  • Clear the brain fog! Taking a moment to “exhale” can be like releasing the clutter going on in there!
  • Ideas have an opportunity to “pop up”- with the to-do list off the hook for a hot minute, creative juices have a chance to show themselves!
  • The reward of feeling energized comes over you – even if you didn’t “do anything”. (ever sit on a beach all day and leave feeling refreshed?)

Challenge yourself to make pausing a priority in your life.

God created everything we’d ever need in just 6 days and then took a day to rest and enjoy it. (Genesis 2:2-3)

Even after we screwed up the perfect connection between us and God through sin, God sent a solution, Jesus. (John 3:16-17)

Jesus, made fully human, often slipped away from the crowds and his disciples to be alone and pray. Before great missions and miracles, He had the habit of getting quiet with God first.

What makes us think we don’t need to practice this type of pause and rest?

I love how Jesus not only acknowledges our habit of working ourselves weary and worrying ourselves sick, but what to do about it.

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”  – Matthew 11:28-30

Whether it’s a few minutes a couple times a day, several hours one day a week or a total check-out once a month!**

**I recommend all three for optimum return on your productivity. (but that’s just me)

As proud, busy people we have forgotten the wonder that can be found in our everyday and traded it for worry and we are missing the delight in the midst of the demands.

Let’s commit to not just finding the pause, but relishing in all that pausing can be and do for us! But more importantly, the One who knows just the type of rest we need and shows us how to get it!
