The Right Goal SIZE Matters

When it comes to your goal getting does the size of it really matter? Wondering if this is some type of trick question while simultaneously wondering how to even check? Is there a size that matters for goals?
Many would be quick to say there’s only one size – BIG. We are more than familiar with hearing, bigger is better, or go big or go home.
Those are the mantras we’ve been handed and accepted for a long time. They’re likely also the ones that we’re in the middle of relentlessly striving to achieve. 🙄 (At the end of the day, we all have One Common Purpose.)
Think of the way that you typically describe your goal or even that project you’re working on. (even if it’s just inside your brain) If I were to guess, I’d say the adjective you chose to describe those would be the word, BIG.
“I’ve got a BIG goal, or this is a BIG project I’m working on.“

But is BIG the size you should be focused on when it comes to your goal getting?
Listen, one size fits all is great for some things, a hat, a beach cover-up, or even a milkshake, but BIG is not a good size for everything.
Womp, womp, womp…
Believe it or not, BIG goals are usually the first to be neglected or worse, eventually abandoned. Why? Well, a few of the usual suspects are overthinking and overwhelm. Overthinking is the one that leads to overwhelm, and that leads to paralysis by too much analysis! The only thing worse than that is S.O.S. (you can read about that pesky hindrance here) Any guesses where overthinking, overwhelm, paralysis by too much analysis, and S.O.S. lead? Burnout.
Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress.

It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands.
Focus is the key to achieving any goal, but here’s the big secret, pay attention to the size that you’re making the steps to get to “the goal”.
How do you eat cake? The whole slice or one bite at a time? Exactly! The next time you announce (even to yourself) that BIG goal/project you’ve got brewing, take some time to craft bite-size steps to get you there.
It’s perfectly okay to have BIG goals, but when it comes to planning them out and ultimately executing the steps to achieve them, smaller is a much better size to focus on.

Here are some ways to SIZE up your goal so that it matters and you make progress!
- Consult your Schedule – how much time do you even have to commit to this goal right now?
- Assess your Influencers – who’s gonna distract you & who will support you?
- How much Zeal do you have for this goal? (that’s enthusiasm & energy you’ll bring because you’re working toward it)
- Know your Emotions – will they be for you or against you when the going gets tough?
At the end of the day, I hope that you’ll come to realize that while yes, the size of the goal matters, so do the planned steps you take to get to it!
making sure the goal fits right there with ya,
