Understanding God’s vision for your life is better than your version

It’s your life so you’d think you’d be the most knowledgable and qualified to know what’s best for it, right?

I mean, you’ve gotten you this far.

The barometer of your life’s success would probably depend on how it’s going right now.

Going well, you’ll feel good about your choices, decisions and directions.

However, if things aren’t going so well, suddenly, “Jesus, take the wheel!” becomes the current cry and mantra.

God’s vision for your life shouldn’t be a tough decision to make or directive to take.

Your life is divinely designed, but it’s your faith and obedience in action that leads to understanding God’s vision for your life is better than your version.

Listen, I’m all for pioneering a trail. Especially when it clears a path for others, but if it leads to burnout and dead ends, who’d we really help?

So how do you make the transition from white-knuckle gripping your version to surrendering to God’s vision and version for your life?

Day by day, moment by moment!

I know, easier said than done, but it’s the truth my friend. And some days and moments are easier than others.

Trust me when I say that letting go of your past is much harder for you than it is for God.

Choosing God’s direction over your decisions will only become the norm when you wholeheartedly trust Him with every aspect of your life.

Again, easier said than done, I know. Especially on the really hard days. But here’s the thing, you don’t have to figure it all out.

What God has for you can seem so far away and even too ambiguous at times.

But no matter how you think or feel about it, it’s an opportunity to trust Him.

Will you do it?

Not just once in an “emergency” or when you feel like it. But in every situation and every circumstance.

Don’t sleep on pursuing God’s vision over your version for your life!

We can’t be occasional about trusting God.

Speaking of occassional, check this out. . .

So think of it like this, there isn’t an occasion that God does not already know the outcome. Including your life. And yes, for some of us, that is a bit of a situation right now.

Here’s the important thing to remember about this word, aphorme, every circumstance and situation is. . . repeat after me: happening for me, not to me.

Let’s choose to see every occasion (and situation) as just another starting point where God is already waiting for us to finish stronger than we started.

Because it’s exactly what He prepared us for.

Philippians 1:6

Now you get to decide if you’ll follow His vision for your or continue to forge your own. And I’m probably not off base in guessing that you’re already wondering how you’ll know the difference.

3 biblical ways you can determine if you’re following God’s vision for you or your own:

  1. Pause. Pray. Ponder, then proceed.
Are you praying and pursuing aligning your decisions with what He’s already directed via His Word?

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all that you do and He will show you which path to take. ~ Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
  2. Reflect, refine, and align your motives.
Are you truly looking to glorify God and serve others or are your ambitions selfish and self-serving? You’re not fooling God with your intentions, so ask Him to reveal any that are not in alignment with His.

For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ~ Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
  3. Focus on being fruitful.
What’s the fruit of your decisions thus far? Are they reflective of producing fruit that aligns with God’s definition of fruit? Peace, love, joy, kindness, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Gal. 5:22-23)

Likewise, every good tree bears fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. ~ Matthew 7:17-20 NIV

So as you move forward from here, I mean that is the direction you’re headed, right? I pray that you will walk with the confidence of knowing God not only created you to live purposefully, but prepared you to do it effectively!

Go ahead and surrender your version, embrace God’s vision, and watch as He unfolds an unstoppable plan for your life.
